To make the joomla site urls Search Engine friendly

The URLs in the joomla site will not not have the meaning names according to the content. Instead it will displayed like below:
“/index.php?option=com_cbcontact&Itemid=65”

In order to make the URLs meaningful, the SEF option should be enabled. To acheive this try the following.

1. In the site root the file named htaccess.txt will be exist, and rename it as .htaccess
2. Login as Administrator.
3. In global configuration area, and under site tab, there exist the area “SEO Settings”.
4. By default, the option will be set false for Search Engine Friendly URLs ,Use Apache mod_rewrite , Add suffix to URLs .
5. Change all that settings to true.
6. Load the site again, the urls now displayed as the normal html site urls and meaningful too.

Note:

If still any problem persists, copy and paste the following content in the .htaccess file.

htaccess
Code:

[/glow]

# The line just below this section: ‘Options +FollowSymLinks’ may cause problems
# with some server configurations. It is required for use of mod_rewrite, but may already
# be set by your server administrator in a way that dissallows changing it in
# your .htaccess file. If using it causes your server to error out, comment it out (add # to
# beginning of line), reload your site in your browser and test your sef url’s. If they work,
# it has been set by your server administrator and you do not need it set here.
